Famous Facts About College Baskeball

  The first men's college basketball game was played on January 18, 1896 and the first women's basketball game was played on April 4, 1896. Back then there weren't as many dunks and fast breaks. There were 9 players on the court and they could only play certain areas. Women weren't allowed to steal the ball from each other because it was considered unladylike. Also, they had to cover every part of their body, except obviously their hands and face. The first NCAA college basketball tournament which is now known as March Madness, was played in  1939.

 In 1913, the basket is left open. You didn't have to retrieve the ball from the net, once a basketball was scored. In 1920, backboards were move to two feet from the wall of the court. In 1967, was illegal but made legal again in 1976. In 1986, three pointers is introduced, set at 19 feet, 9 inches from the center of the basket.
